    Severe emotional trauma can cause a type of amnesia.  For example, an adolescent who suffers repeated sexual abuse may not recall periods of their life from that time such as who their teachers were, holidays they went on etc.  

    People with profound depression may not remember certain things from the period they were depressed.  

    Certain personality factors may make a person more susceptible to these types of memory difficulties.
