My 82-year-old father is recovering from a recent blood clot in the lungs and is very weak. In recent weeks he has developed a very chronic dysphagia and is deteriorating rapidly. All scans and specialists have been unable to find any physical cause. We are struggling to get nutrition into him and now he has issues swallowing his regular tablets to manage his other health issues. His speech therapist is reluctant to get him to exercise his throat muscles until we can consult a neurologist to determine if there is nerve damage - we are waiting for a consultation but in the meantime, his health is deteriorating fast.
