Iron Overload Causes
I am seeking some answers about current medical issues Im facing involving high iron levels and deteriorating liver function. I am female, 24 years of age and otherwise in good health. I exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight (BMI 19). My iron levels have been steadily increasing over the last few months, with my ferritin level currently at 377H ug/L in my last test, however my transferrin was only 24L umol/L. Saturation and iron were within normal reference intervals. For reference, my ferritin level was 182 in May 2024 and has increased consistently since then. I have been tested for haemochromatosis, and found no mutations in the C8282Y or H63D genes. My haemotology results show low white cell count and low neutrophils. My liver function shows slightly low Alk Phos, Total Protein and Albumin.
In terms of my symptoms, I have noticed some joint pain which seems to be increasing. Occasional upper right abdominal pain, fatigue and only just recently loss of menstruation.
