Why is there an Irritation on my skin where wedding ring used to be?

I have a terrible irritation on my finger where my wedding ring used to go.

I am not using anything different on my skin when washing, can there be a reason for this (I also broke up with my husband 5 years ago), ever since the ring was taken off my finger I have been getting this irritation. ?

Moisture trapped beneath the skin will disturb the skin barrier and allow allergens and skin irritants to enter the skin and induce inflammation.  in susceptible people this can lead to eczema.

Take the ring off when washing your hands.  Dry your hands well after washing.  You may require a hand cream or topical steroids.

Contact allergy to gold is uncommon.  Gold plated rings can release nickel from the base metal alloy.  People allergic to nickel can react to silver plated, gold plated, or 9 ct Gold rings.
if the problem persists, see a dermatologist.
