Help with my son's peanut allergies?

My son is HIGHLY allergic to peanuts. As a parent I obviously avoid packing him anything with nuts, but lots of kids at school eat peanut butter sandwiches. He begins school next week. What can I do?

When enrolling your son in school, you must complete the healthcare assessment form. If you live in NSW, the NSW Anaphylaxis Training programme is a programme which has been set up to work with all schools across NSW to provide education and training to schools in this area. Once you have completed the health care form, the school will provide you with further forms that require completion by yourself and also by your treating doctor. If you have not seen a paediatric allergy specialist, it is vital you make an appointment as soon as possible to ensure your child's allergy is assessed and that you have the right information for the shcool. It is also vital that your son is taught that he does not share other peoples food, this should have started from the time your childs allergy was first diagnosed. The school will have there own proceudres in place. For further information, please see the ASCIA website.
