What are factors that contribute to a child's learning difficulties?

As a parent, it is extremely frustrating and challenging to see my child struggle with his coursework. Sometimes I take it personally and wonder if it is the way I raised him and didn't push him enough at an early stage. Other times, I wonder if excessive playtime with friends contributed to it. What are factors that could have contributed to my son's learning difficulties in school?

There are many factors that can contribute to a child having difficulty with academic learning. Motivation, language ability, engagement with the content, attention, physical ability and maturity can all impact on how a child performs academically. Making sure that the child has time to play and experience the world as a child, as well as learning from their peers through play, is an integral part of early language and social learning, and should be looked at as a positive aspect of a child's total learning experience. If you want to pinpoint more specifically the underlying areas that may be affecting your child's learning, an assessment from a speech language pathologist and/or educator may be required.
