Should I Stop Riding My Dirt Bike?

I am a 14-year-old boy who just recently broke my collar bone in a dirt bike accident. My mum is pushing me to take on a different and safer hobby, but I love riding my dirt bike, even with the precautions and dangers that come with it. Should I take on a different hobby?

As a health professional I see lots of injuries from motorbikes, both dirt bikes and road bikes. Fractured wrists, broken legs, internal organ damage, puncture wounds and lacerations are just a few that I have seen over the years. Some of these may leave you with permanent impairment that could affect your future job options or cause lifelong health problems.

So to answre your question, yes riding a dirt bike is dangerous and if you were my son I would also be encouraging you to try less dangerous sports.

    Good luck!
