One of the most common knee injuries is an anterior cruciate ligament sprain or tear. The anterior cruciate ligament is one of the major stabilizing ligaments in the knee. It is a strong rope like structure located in the centre of the knee running from the femur to the tibia.

When this ligament tears unfortunately it doesn’t heal and often leads to the feeling of instability in the knee.

About half of all injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament occur along with damage to other structures in the knee, such as articular cartilage, meniscus, or other ligaments.

Injured ligaments are considered "sprains" and are graded on a severity scale.
