Does not wearing my retainer for a few months change how my face looks?

I wore braces for years and I wore my retainer regularly just like my dentist told me to, but after a long time, I became lazy and didn't care to wear it so I stopped wearing it for a few months and I've just decided to wear it again yesterday because my mom told me that my face used to be V-shaped after my braces had been removed and now it's not V-shaped anymore. I suspect it's because I didn't wear my retainer regularly.
Is my suspicion correct? And will my face (or my jaw) go back to how it was now that I wear my retainer day and night? -
