Do I need a hip replacement?

I am a 50 year old healthy male who has just been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my left hip and left knee. I have bone on bone with no cartilage. I’m of healthy weight I have no pain or discomfort occasionally a bit of swelling in my knee. My general practitioner has referred me to a specialist and has recommended I have a hip and knee replacement. At present I’m leading a good healthy and active lifestyle my osteoarthritis isn’t affecting my work or lifestyle. I see a physiotherapist occasionally and he gives me regular exercises to strengthen my muscles. I would like to delay having major surgery until I feel I need it. Is this possible?
