  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

I feel lost, confused and depressed.

I am 77 years of age and have always had an excellent job where I felt like I was part of a family. I moved 1 year ago from an area where I lived since 1974 to another area 3 hours away to be closer to my son (my only family). I cannot seem to get my act together. I feel totally lost. I joined church groups etc. but cannot get myself together. I miss the life and the friends I left behind. I am scared to make another change and I do not want to hurt my son's feelings.

It sounds like you are missing the support you had from friends, and you are reluctant to raise this with your son. You may benefit from counselling to help you work through what is the right decision for you moving forward. Family counselling may also be helpful if you feel you would like support to speak about this to your son, and to hear his perspectives in order to work on solutions together.
