Firstly, the osteoarthritis (joint wear and tear that's already there) probably can't be reversed. However, chiropractic can help in this way: it can reduce the pain by finding and correcting the cause of local swelling in the joint, which is usually some sort of joint injury or instability that's progressively damaging the joint and producing inflammation. Often the pain attributed to arthritis is actually coming from tendonitis. In other words, inflammation of the muscle attachment to the bone. Again, chiropractors are trained to find causes of tendonitis and correct those.

Chiropractic can also help by slowing the progression of osteoarthritis by restoring normal function and movement to the joints so that they wear more slowly. One of the ways chiropractic can slow joint degeneration is by correcting nervous system interference that can cause faulty proprioception. Proprioception is the body's ability to maintain correct movement and position of the muscles and joints. If there is faulty proprioception, it tends to lead to injury and accelerated joint degeneration.
