Jumpers knee, also known as patellar tendinitis is due to repetitive stress to the patella tendon (ligament) (the connection between your kneecap and shin bone), common with jumping and running sports.

Usually this presents with pain over the patella tendon or at the attachment points on the patella and tibial tuberosity. Trying to straighten the knee when it is bent beyond 90 degrees often results in pain.
