My depressed ex-girlfriend is confusing me

I've known my ex-girlfriend for 2 years and has clinical depression. At some point after 1.5 years, I had to go to my country due to my father's demise and I stayed there for two months. Suddenly there was a shift in the dynamics and she was trying to get more closer. After I returned she said she wanted to be in a relationship with me and of course I said yes.

From the next week after agreeing, she became a different person showing little interest in meeting or talking to me. I was handling her very carefully knowing her vulnerability. After a month she said she is going to get help by staying in a hospital for her depression. Then she said it is difficult to handle relationship and broke up but said we need to be still friends. Now she is getting mad at me, even for the regular messages which I write. Already we reduced the frequency of being in contact giving her the space. Still one day she is really happy that I contacted and another day she is irritated that I am writing.

    What should I do?
