I am 60 years and have recently sprained my ankle. Ultra sound has shown three complete ligament tears and X-ray has shown a small chip off the ankle.
I have ankle taped and most of swelling and bruising has resolved.
I am now doing gentle walking at home/office etc with very little discomfort and virtually no pain. At no stage have I required pain medication.
I understand my ankle will be very unstable with only one ligament supporting it.
Do I have any options here or is surgery the only one?
If so, is there an optimum time period surgery should be done?
Can I afford to wait six months or a year or will this affect outcome?
I have a CT scan to undergo so my GP can see what has caused the pain but it is getting worse. Painkillers aren't helping and I can't sleep at night with the pain. I take prescribed sleeping tablets …
