Our 4-year-old son has had severe lower right abdominal pain. Upon investigation a bell-shaped fecalith was discovered in his appendix, measuring 7.5 mm. No infection was found. This has been causing him severe bouts of pain for a week now. He was seen by a paediatric surgeon who was going to operate on him but was then overruled by the hospital's head surgeon as she said he wasn’t sick enough. Should the appendix be removed if it’s causing him pain and they have sighted swelling and a fecalith but no infection?
