What is the best medication to manage stomach and liver cancer pain?

She has stomach and liver cancer. Current oral medications require food prior to taking them which causes a large amount of pain so she won't eat. As a result of the lack of nourishment and fluid, her kidneys are now having a hard time functioning. Would a slow-release pain medication or combination of medications via a patch be a suitable alternative? -
