  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

I can't believe my specialist is calling it IBS still..

I have had ongoing issues for last 18months and have had all kinds of testing done from ultrasound, CT endoscopy & colonoscopy etc. I suffer from cramps, acute pains, bloating, loss of appetite, an irregular toilet regime. Sometimes it is so painful I need to visit ER. The last few occasions they have said the flare up is due to IBS and the Somac I am on for gastritis. However, pains and symptoms persist. I would like another colonoscopy as a recent CT scan showed inflammation and other discrepancies - my specialist believes it will still come out negative and the result will be IBS. I almost want him to say IBD so that I can put a label on it and receive other medication. Surely with eating healthy and regular physical activity, in addition to no drinking and smoking it will improve? I am 27 and cannot live like this as I am in pain most days.
