  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

How do I minimise deterioration caused by Chronic Subacromial Bursitis?

My condition started in 2008, possibly due to moving furniture. It started in the right shoulder and after a few weeks presented in the left shoulder as well. My condition is confirmed by US and I have been prescribed Ibuprofen(400mg) and have had 2 US guided cortisone injections in the right side, none of which have had any effect on my condition. As of my most recent US and X-ray I am now showing signs of "Mild AC joint degenerative narrowing". Is there anything I can do to prevent further degeneration while I wait for a specialist appointment? I'm 29, female and have been waiting for a specialist appointment on the public health waiting list for 5 years, so do not anticipate seeing a specialist any time soon.
