Nail bed injuries and deformities of nail - can they be repaired?

I damaged my nail bed with a cactus thorn. It became infected and I had to have the nail removed. Now when my nail grows, it splits vertical. Can anything be done to repair this?

Yes it's entirely possible that surgery can repair this by removing the scar tissue from the germinal matrix (bit that grows the nail). It is not guaranteed but is relatively minor and worth a shot. See a plastic or hand surgeon.
