My son, aged 3, showed no signs of having threadworm until one day during toilet training he finally managed to go in the toilet and I found lots and lots of worms in his poo. He did not itch his bum at all and is certainly not failing to thrive. He is slightly irritable and fussy with food but what 3 year old isn't? We gave the whole family Combantrin chocolate squares and then followed up two weeks later with a repeat dose. We took all the other necessary steps- vacuuming rooms thoroughly, cleaning bedclothes and nightclothes frequently and all stuffed toys etc. Nails are clean and I am trying to encourage good hygiene but my 3 year old is a finger sucker so this is really difficult.
Unfortunately I fear there has been reinfestation- with the huge amounts of worms that I saw, there must have been so many eggs laid so how does one break the cycle? I have noticed my son grinding his teeth and he is still irritable and fussy with food. There have been dead worms in his poo. Thanks!
