The amount of weight gained depends on your pre-pregnancy body mass index, as well as whether you are having a singleton or twin pregnancy.
For a singleton pregnancy, and for someone with a normal body mass index before pregnancy, a rough rule of thumb is that during the first trimester you should put on a total of 1 to 2 kilograms. And during the second and third trimester, you should put on around 400 g pure weight.
