  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

How do I get treatment for my Nanna's schizophrenia when she is unaware of her condition?

I think my Nanna may have schizophrenia. I have researched the symptons and it all seems to match what she is experiencing. She had a bit of a break down a few months back where she verbally abused a stranger (which is totally out of character for her) and from that day on she has been paranoid. She honstly believes there are people following her, taking photos of her, bugging her car and phone. They are always different people and thinks they are either the police, FBI or private investigators and that it is linked back to this stranger she verbally abused months ago.

We have tried to tell her that its not possible, that what she is saying does not make sense and have begged her to see a doctor but she is refusing and gets very angry when we bring up mental health issues. Please tell me what we can do to help her before it gets worse and she hurts herself or sombody else?
