  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Can I get Infliximab if I visit Australia from UK?

I am looking into travelling Australia & New Zealand in the new year and am currently receiving infliximab for crohns, is it possible to get this over there & at what cost?

Infliximab is a listed medication on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) so it is available here (see http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/provider/pbs/drugs1/crohns.jsp ).

However (I guess?), as you are not an Australian citizen I doubt that you would be eligible for it under the PBS unless there is a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement between your country of citizenship (UK or another EU country?) and Australia (see the link above).

I suggest that you check both this and with your travel insurance and, if applicable, your private medical insurance people to see if they would fund it for you here.
