I want help, I just want to be fixed.

I was diagnosed with Depression and went on meds straight away, i felt better and went off the meds over a year ago. its all coming back to me and i dont want to be on meds, i think about suicide every day because i feel like life is too much trouble and i dont have the answers. there are times when i feel happy, but mostly really down. i just feel lost as to what to do with my life and how to fix the issues that are there. i jsut want help, i jsut want it all to be fixed.

I hope that it is OK if I ask you a slightly challenging question:

If you “felt better” when you were on meds, why did you discontinue them?

It has no “right” answer - just something for you to consider.

A couple of non-pharmaceutical approaches, both of which have been of benefit to me, are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

A clinical psychologist with experience of using either or both of these with his/her clients could well be able to help you.

I'd like to add to Simon's question - why did you go off meds when they were making you feel better? Many of us may have the idea that continuing on with medication for a disorder like depression is somehow not right - that it may mean we're not doing well. A related question for you is - if you were told by a Doctor that you had diabetes, and needed to have insulin injections for the rest of your life, would you think that needing to do this was somehow not OK, or that continuing to need insulin meant you were failing in some way? Depression for a considerable number of people is a similiar condition in that it has a biological cause that needs to be managed by taking medication. I would warmly encourage you to at least consider taking your medication again and seeing if this helps.
