How can I get my seborrheic dermatitis under control?

    Related Topics
I got this condition all of a sudden & it has effected my nose area which had old scars. This condition has been with me now for 3 months & every inch of my nose has been punished & even split. My nose looks horrible with scarring. I can't contain the dry spells which result in the skin on my nose splitting.
I have just seen a dermatologist & am taking Doxycycline tablets (one in morning & one night) plus Hydrozole cream to apply to my nose morning & night. That was working & I thought my condition (skin on my nose) was actually healing until yesterday (01/Oct 2012) - the dry wave came over me - I applied normal basic cream to tie me over until the evening in which I could then take my medication & hydrozole appliction. That made everything worse - by late afternoon my nose was read raw & had split. I am lost as what I can do to stop the waves of dryness & allow my skin on my nose to heal & then look for help at removing all the horrible scars

Eczema on other parts of the body can be covered up which helps with healing.  However the face is always open to the air and subject to getting extremely dry.
The medications you are using should get the problem under control however the following tips may help:

    • use only bottled water on your face to wash with
    • change your shampoo to one for sensitive skin and be very cautious about other skin products you use - hypoallergenic products only
    • use zinc paste to help heal the splits
    • Dermasilk make a therapeutic face mask which can assist in healing the skin - you could wear this at night.  For more information visit www.dermasilk.com.au
