In Osteoporosis, the density of the bone is gradually diminished. This means that the bone actually becomes weaker and more brittle.
As load is increased across the brittle bone, it fails, and this leads to it fracturing.
In Osteoporosis, a normal load can fracture a bone, while people with normal bone density need an abnormally high load to fracture their bones.

The best way to prevent Osteoporosis (other than supplementation and correct nutrition) is to load the bones with exercise before the bones become too weak.
The best weight bearing loading exercises are walking, running, weights, aerobics and skipping.

Make sure you chat to your local medical professional before commencing an exercise programme, and consult a trainer to ensure you perform the exercises correctly.
