    How can Crohn's disease lead to eye inflammation?

    I've noticed that my eyelid has become inflamed and I also suffer from Crohn's disease. Why did this happen?

    There is a relationship although it is not a strong relationship. Probably up to about 5% of patients with Crohn's disease will get eye symptoms at any time. This is usually what we call iritis or uveitis, and inflammation around the whites of the eyes. It's poorly understood why this happens. Usually, treatment of Crohn's and maintaining remission in Crohn's will help most patients to avoid eye symptoms longer term.
