    Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) mainly affects people in the 50 - 70 age group.  It can, however, affect people much yonger and older so there are no rules. With variant CJD, commonly known as Mad Cow disease (no identified cases in Australia) the average age is about 27 years of age.
