    Hepatitis A illness last only for 1-3 weeks and does not cause long term liver damage. There is no specific treatment for hepatitis A. Household contacts and sexual partners of an infectious person usually need an injection of hepatitis A vaccine or immunoglobulin. These injections may prevent or reduce illness if given within two weeks of contact with the infectious person.
