  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

How do I stop being sad, depressed and lonely, and find new friends?

About 18 months ago due to a medical condition, I had to stop work. Before retiring I used to travel 4 hours to Sydney so had not made any friends where I live. My social life involved friends at work and occasionally catching up with close friends and family. I keep in touch with my friends and family but hardly see them due to the distance. I'm lonely and trying to make new friends where I live. I am finding this to be somewhat difficult and not sure how to go about doing this. This is making me feel very sad and depressed. I did suffer from depression years ago and don't want to experience it again so I need to do things to get out of this feeling. I need some suggestions on how to make friends and get a life again.
