    Yes Medicare covers breast reduction. The item number is 45520 for each breast. However many public hospitals in NSW no longer regard this procedure as "non-cosmetic" and therefore patients are often forced to have the procedure performed in Private hopsitals. As there is a medicare item number the Private Health Insurers cover the hospital costs. Often there is a gap for the doctors fees.
