What is the best path for mental health specialist?

    Related Topic
Looking to work in mental health and whether to pursue psychology or psychiatry, both seem to have the pro's and cons. Psychology focuses entirely on mental health yet lacks the medical knowledge required to prescribe medication when it is needed alongside psychotherapy, while psychiatry requires a lot of time spent studying skills that won't be used if primarily focusing on mental health practices. I understand there are other options for a psychologist to overcome those shortcomings such as studying to be a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner but am not sure on the limitations that would still have as opposed to doing a full medical degree. Alternatively would already having a Masters in Clinical Psychology before doing a medical degree shorten the additional study required to become a psychiatrist? And would that path even be more specialised in the field of mental health than PNP? Not interested in prestige or pay differences, just specifically qualifications for mental health practices.
