Cardiologist (Heart Specialist)
With an LDL of 6.1, a calcium score of 102, and a family history of heart disease, it’s clear your cholesterol needs to be actively managed. Statins have the strongest evidence for reducing cardiovascular events, so it's worth revisiting them. Many side effects can be mitigated by using lower doses, alternate dosing schedules, or different formulations. It’s best not to write them off completely. A cardiology review and further imaging (like a CT coronary angiogram or stress echo) can help determine if there’s any actual "obstructive" disease. If so, more intensive therapy, with other agents, may be needed. If not, your management could potentially be more flexible. You're already doing many of the right things — staying active and maintaining a healthy weight — but lowering LDL remains crucial to reducing long-term risk.
