  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Are there any strategies to deal with strong personalities in the workplace?

Following a restructure, my workplace has appointed new employees, some being strong personality types. My experience working closely with these new peers is that they seemingly have common traits, e.g. overbearing, demonstrative, command attention, appear confident, have an over-zealous work style and are by nature competitive. Their age range is between 20-35 years old. My personality is quite the opposite to theirs, as is some of my other colleagues. We are assertive, confident people, all with a caring nature and a strong work ethic, with an age range of 40-60 years old. A 'club' mentality has developed with the strong personality types, and as a result, is causing disharmony and division as a team. I would welcome some sound advice as to any strategies I can adopt to make my life at work more tolerable.
