  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Is there an immunologist who can help me with my severe allergies?

My allergies seem to be getting much worse with daily sinus headaches..I take antihistamines, rinse my sinuses, use rhinocort and neorophen sinus to no avail. I have floor boards in my bedroom and dust mite covers. I have modified my diet - no gluten, lactose, low sugar, avoid sulphites. I have always had problems with grasses and dust mites but now I have a whole range of triggers - especially soil based mould - and I seem to need antibiotics every 6 - 8 weeks as I end up with a sinus infection. I saw an allergy speciliast about 2 months that did a range of skin prick tests, I am allegic to most grasses, dust mites, alotera, and cat hair. I can't tolerate cigaratte smoke, paint, synthetic carpets ec. I have also had 2 Anaphylactic reactions cause unknown - so I carry an epipen. I wake up exhausted with a pounding headache most days & My body and joints ache . It very hard to function like this. I am hoping to find an immunologist that is willing to do some testing and detective work to see what why my immune has gone hay wire - thanks

    Thanks

My research interests include immunology and the mechanisms of amyloid formation. The latter has implications for people who are dealing with Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease … View Profile

I think it would help if you saw a specialist clinical immunologist.

The "How to locate a specialist" link in this site http://www.allergy.org.au/ should help you to find one who is geographically convenient for you.

Thanks, I am in North east Vic which means I will need to go to Melbourne.  Should I get a referral for somewhere like The Epworth or RMH or could somewhere like Avid Allergy help (ie. do more than just skin prick tests)   Thanks

    Hi Sue

I am not that familiar with the Victorian system but all three places that you mentioned look good to me. As you wrote, a bit more than skin prick tests seems to be needed to figure out what is going on and then deal with it

    All the best.
