I was diagnosed with IBS after a colonoscopy/gastroscopy in January. This resulted following 7 months of chronic diahorrea, bloating, intestinal gas. I went on a LOW FODMAP diet which alleviated symptoms to some extent. I then began re-introducing foods which symptoms got worse and switching back to a LOW FODMAP diet didn't alleviate. I began to be more bloated with intestinal gas and additionally was fatigued, nauseous and felt depressed. By this time I had dropped to a very low body fat mass and I have had to really pull back from training (triathlons). I went back to the doctors and asked for her to test vit B12 and stools. Stools test came back positive for Dientamoeba species (using a faecal multiplex PCR) and I am now on antibiotics (doxycycline (100mg 2xdaily for 10 days). The doctor was not keen on doing the test and was a bit put off when a positive result came back. She couldn't really tell me anything regarding the extent of the infection or other advice. Can anyone help?
