What side effects can you get from taking thyroid medication?

I am soon to have my goitre out, possibly only half as most of it is on one side. I would like to know what side effects I might get from being on thyroid meds. I have hashimoto's ..if that is any help. Goitre's are big in my family, some of my aunties have them or have had them out, also my mother too. I am asking this question because I have been to numerous specialists and doctors on the public system and they all have differing opinions. I am 57 and have only just started to notice any “real” problems with the goitre and so have been advised to have it out, but I'm not convinced as to whether I should wait or not. -
