ACCF Medical Advisory Panellist Dr Gino Pecoraro gives this response - “Total Mesometrial Resection is a modified type of hysterectomy used to treat early cervical cancer. The procedure aims to remove tissue that is embrologically related to the genital tract. There are claims it is pelvic nerve sparing and may minimise local tissue trauma which would presumably decrease post-operative effects but the series we could find had only very small numbers. Any patient undergoing surgery should ask the surgeon to go through their various options before deciding on a course of treatment.”
