  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

What is the best contraceptive for PCOS?

I have been on “Brenda” for about 10 years.
I was wondering if the needle contraceptive was of any benefit for the treatment of PCOS or just stay on Brenda?
I am also on Metformin and over weight but exercise regularly

Perhaps if you are not having problems with Brenda you should stick with this. It provides good cycle control and because it has an anti- androgenic effect it blocks the male hormones responsible for acne and excess hair.
Weight control can be difficult with PCOS so perhaps consulting a dietician would be helpful and well as continuing your exercise progrrame.
    Regards,
    Brenda
