  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Does a "depression / anxiety" community exist in any capital city?

I am aware of GROW - and have started going to it. However it is a once a week event. What would be very useful is to be in contact with a kind of sponsor to help guide and set a daily agenda to achieve what is required. In my case I am looking to work in a human contact situation in a puposeful activity. Doing good to others and taking the focus off myself. This latter seems almost impossible to achieve. Also to set things up so that we can get back to work - part time first and then full time.

GROW is a well established group and worth continuing with. The primary information source for depression and anxiety is the Beyond Blue website. It helps people find professional help such as GP's and psychologists and there is a telephone contact listed where you can ask about support groups. If you Google “depression support group” and your city you may find a group. I know that in Brisbane you can. It is an excellent website and has information on its activities but they are not as frequent as you are asking for. Once you have found a group, do some research on them before you join.
