Dry macular degeneration is the slow process of gradual degeneration of the macula area. Most macular degeneration is categorised as the dry type. Unfortunately there is currently no effective treatment for dry macular degeneration.

Wet macular degeneration is when there is bleeding and/or swelling of the macula area. Wet macular degeneration can be devastating to central vision in a small amount of time and is more severe. If detected early, wet macular degeneration can be treateed by an ophthalmologist.

There is a small percentage of people who convert from having dry to wet macular degeneration, so it is important to have your eyes tested periodically by an optometrist or ophthalmologist as recommended.
