    The causes of cardiomyopathy can be both acquired or inherited, although there are many cases where the cause cannot be established.In addition to genetically-linked cardiac diseases, some of the causes of cardiomyopathy  include coronary artery disease, alcoholism, diabetes,high blood pressure,certaintoxins, some viral infections, drug abuse, certain cancer medicines,and complications with the mother during the later stages of pregnancy, or soon after childbirth.
