    If you already have AF and have identified any precipitating factors (eg. alcohol) then avoid these. Medication and catheter ablation are additional approaches.

    If you don't have AF and want to prevent it in the long term then general healthy living and attention to common problems such as hypertension (high blood pressure) and reducing alcohol intake are factors which will reduce your likelihood of developing this condition. Advancing age is the strongest risk factor and cannot be modified.
