    Does alcohol affect IBS?

    I'm a long time irritable bowel sufferer and regularly drink (3-4 nights a week) with dinner. Could this impact my IBS?

    Alcohol is a known irritant in the intestinal tract, so yes, it can make IBS worse. In addition, many alcoholic drinks contain carbohydrates (FODMAPs - see other questions about this) that can contribute to IBS in many sufferers.
