    The cause of glaucoma is largely unknown. In some cases it runs in the family. In others, it may be caused by other eye diseases or trauma. In most cases of glaucoma the pressure inside the eye is too high for the eye itself. However, other factors such as blood flow to the optic nerve may also be important in some people.
