    When a person suffers from persistent feelings of anxiety, stress or negative behaviours that cannot be changed through conscious effort, this often indicates underlying emotional conflict. This conflict is usually part of a subconscious process that can be changed with the help of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a form of therapy that respects and understands the dynamics within the mind. Just as the inner-mind has the ability to create anxiety or conflict, it also has the ability to change it during hypnosis with appropriate suggestions.

    Hypnosis can help anxiety in the following ways:

    1. It can offer a deep sense of relaxation;
    2. It can release underlying emotions causing the anxiety;
    3. It can help you to control emotions;
    4. It can resolve underlying emotional conflicts causing anxiety;
    5. It can help identify past events, circumstances and/or relationships that may have contributed to anxiety;
    6. It can help to resolve and heal past events, circumstances and/or relationships that may have contributed to anxious feelings.

    Once such anxious feelings have been helped, the anxious worrying that goes with the feelings will also stop.

    When someone presents to a hypnotherapist with anxiety related issues, the hypnotherapist will be asking the client questions relating to their thoughts about the future.  Unlike stress, which is typically about the current overwhelm a client is facing, anxiety is intense worry about things that usually haven't happened yet but which are playing heavily on the client's mind. Things from the past may be factors contributing to the anxiety e.g., if a parent has died of cancer or diabetes for example, we may worry that we are likely to experience the same conditions too. However, the worries can be curtailed quite easily with the help of hypnotherapy. A hypnotherapist will help you to manage the thoughts, relax with, and feel more confident about, the unknown, and help you to put things in place to ensure you are prepared better for the future. So if you have a job interview coming up and you expect to fail, perhaps beause the last interview you had didn't go well, your hypnotherapist will help you to mentally rehearse and prepare, or reframe the past memories so they don't continue to affect future thoughts or decisions. Your hypnotherapist may also give you techniques you can use when you're feeling anxious to help you relax and control the symptoms very easily.
