    Son with epilepsy would like to learn diving. Is this safe?

    This certainly is a dilemma. We always encourage people to lead as normal life as possible and promote independence and trying new things to increase confidence. A lot depends on your son’s seizure type, and when they are most likely to occur, but if your son was standing on the top of a high diving board and had a seizure, the chances are he could seriously hurt himself if he fell. If you are confident this is unlikely to happen, then there shouldn’t be much harm in letting him dive.

    This is a decision you really should make together and with consultation of your son’s neurologist – even have a talk to a diving instructor. Without full knowledge of your son’s condition, it is difficult to confidently say “yes” or “no” to this question.
