I get on with my life, go to work, see my friends, and play sports but I always have this niggling worry that I might have a seizure even though I haven’t had one for 15 months. I know I shouldn’t worry but can’t help it. Is this normal?

Seizures by their very nature are unpredictable. It is this unpredictability and the possible loss of control and embarrassment during seizures that people with epilepsy fear. Anxiety about having seizures, particularly in public, is very common. Anxiety can also be related to epilepsy in more specific ways. It can occur not only as a reaction to the diagnosis, but also as a symptom of the seizures, and, in some cases, as a side effect of seizure medicines.

It might be worth speaking to someone about how to manage this concern. If your fear is having a significant impact on your life, ask your doctor or Epilepsy Action Australia about getting help.
