  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

What could cause temporary blindness in one eye?

On 3 occasions separated by roughly a month, my left eye has painlessly lost vision over the course of 30 secs. The 1st time entirely, the 2nd and 3rd only partially. Only by placing my head down between my legs have I been able to restore vision. Before it kicks in my heart rate has been normal, I haven't been doing anything extrenuous and am often just sitting.

I've visited the Sydney Eye Hospital who gave me the all clear on my eye itself, but had no further ideas. GP visits, blood tests and the like have returned nothing.

As it appears reoccuring I would like to have it fixed, or at the very least know what causes it. However at this stage I'm not even sure what tests or type of specialists I should see.

Any suggestions for specialist type, test or potential causes would be greatly appreciated.
